The Visual Poetry Project invites students to engage poetry not simply as text, but as a living cultural practice. In this project, students select a poem they love and transform it into a visual poem, translating language into image, sound, and movement. Through this process, they attend to affect, mood, and embodiment, exploring how meaning shifts across forms and mediums.
By reimagining poetry in visual and multimedia formats, students deepen their connection to the work while experimenting with creative expression and interpretation. The project encourages them to think critically about the creative process.
At the same time, students become active agents of change. Their contributions help expand the visibility of Vietnamese American and of other Southeast Asian American poetry, bringing these voices to broader audiences and participating in an ongoing effort to build more inclusive cultural archives.
